Nairn Fishwife Statue

Visit our Scotland for Holidays in Scotland

The Nairn Fishwife Statue is found next to the harbour and the statue is based on an actual fishwife, Annie Ralph, one of the last of the Nairn fishwives. The Fishwives of Nairn and elsewhere throughout Scotland worked hard at looking after their homes while also working to support their fisherman husbands and brothers - gathering bait, cleaning fish and preserving them. They could also be seen selling the fish throughout the town, carrying the fish in wicker baskets.
